X consists of 9 positive elements. Set Y consists of the squares of theelements of X. Is the average of the elements in Y greater than that of set X?
(1) The median of X is greater than 1
(2) The range of X is 2
a. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is insufficient.
b.Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) is insufficient.
c. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient. d. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
e,Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

ans d
if median is greater than 1, the square of all 5 elements
(all above or same to median) will increase and hence so the avg – makes A
suffice. B also sufficient because if 9th element is more than 1,
square of that element will increase the avg.
